RE: Yosemite

Yosemite Lakes does have a separate "non-member" campsite area . . . without access to most of the member amenities. You'll need to check to make sure they're open when you want to go - two years ago we were there in early May and they had just opened for the season the day before we got there.

RE: Advice on windshield sun shade for driving

Carefree also makes some manual pull-down sunshades - less pricey, work great. We also use some inexpensive clip-on see-thru visors - added to our existing see-thru visors makes for pretty good coverage. Got those at CW, as I recall. Bright light tends to give DW headaches, so making her comfortable was/is a necessity.

RE: Residency and Address??

Generally, you register the MH where you "reside". We picked SD because they're very friendly to fulltimers becoming "residents". On a new registration, it's 3% tax. On a registration moved from another state, you only pay tax in SD if you paid less than 3% in some other state - and then you pay the difference. We moved our registration to SD from OR (which has no tax), so we paid SD tax (one time) on NADA value or purchase price, whichever was lower. For us even after owning the MH for over a year, our purchase price was still lower than NADA. Unless you have a strong need to be Florida "residents", I'd check out SD. We use America's Mailbox in Rapid City. Lots of good info on their website.

RE: What vehicles can be flat towed?

It's unlikely you'll find any vehicle that can be legally towed without an auxiliary braking unit. Many states require extra brakes. Although we use a Brake Buddy, some folks prefer units that don't have to be connected and disconnected every time you hook up or unhook.
And then you have to consider the towing capacity of the rig you buy - check the specs to make sure the toad you select is within the motorhome's capacity.

RE: Day trips from Las Vegas, NV

Ditto for Hoover Dam - and double-ditto for the Chocolate Factory. Red Rock Canyon is also very nice. In Vegas itself, we greatly enjoy the classic automobile showroom/museum at the Imperial Hotel.

RE: Garmn Updates

If all you're after are the updated POIs, go to poifactory.com and get what you need for free. That said, for $40 I'd go for the updated maps as well - that's about 75 cents a week for the next year.

RE: ads in middle?

I use Firefox as my browser with the adblock plugin - I've never seen an ad on this forum (except when I load a page into Internet Explorer to see what ads everybody complains about).

RE: Rexhall - Your opinion would be helpful

We have a 2000 Rexhall Aerbus (bought used in 2005) and love it. We keep looking for something we'd like better, and have yet to find it. Far as I know, Rexhall is still alive, if not well - at least their website has been freshened in the last few weeks.

Nope, unless your AM/FM/DVD has a digital aux input (unlikely).

RE: Filling Propane with Toad in Tow

You might want to look at the Flying J on Google Earth to see where the RV pumps and propane station are physically located - our propane is on the passenger side of the RV, and at many FJ, the propane station is on the driver side. Only way they'd fill was to have us enter the lane from the wrong direction - not easy to do when there's a line of other RVs behind you waiting for fuel.

You can also download any one of several bandwidth monitors free from the internet - a Google should find several. Here's a writeup on the one I use.

RE: Wingard RV Digital Satellite Antenna

Guess I oughta call Winegard. I sent an email several months ago, and the response was that they could talk an authorized repair person through the fix. When I asked if they could talk me through it, got no response.

It's your map, let it show whatever you want it to. There are no map rules, far as I can tell.

RE: Wingard RV Digital Satellite Antenna

Yep, it's manual. Looks like it comes with a "universal" tv antenna that elevates when you crank the dish up. Also looks like it doesn't come with an elevation meter, which to my mind is essential. It's a single LNB model, which means you get one satellite at a time, and you'll have to move the dish manually if you want to watch channels on another satellite. It will work with Dish, DirectTV and ExpressVu. Looks like $100 is a pretty good price. The installation manual can be downloaded here. Ours doesn't have the attached TV antenna, and does have the elevation meter. After 2 years, the antenna has developed a tendency to "wobble" vertically if there's much of a breeze. Apparently, that's a design flaw that nobody wants to fix. We also have a TV LNB mounted on our satellite internet dish - so between the two of them we do get both primary Dish satellites.

RE: creative ideas for wiring a roof antenna & wilson ?'s

Why do you need to run the wire "from the rear to the front"? Why not mount the antenna at the end of the coach where you'll use it? We use the Wilson "trucker" antenna, mounted to a spring-loaded CB antenna base mounted just outside the overhead cabinet that houses the amplifier. Just a couple of bolts and a small hole for the wire (well sealed, of course). Ours is hard-wired because you get a much better signal that way. Works very well into a Verizon USB aircard.

RE: Magellen GPS.

If your 4040 is the one with the AAA tourbook info, you can also download updates to the AAA stuff quarterly. Last update was released in August, should be another one this month. Get it from the AAA website - you'll have to dig a little to find it. I think it's under "member discounts". One you find Magellan, you can find the download.
I was shopping for a Garmin to replace the 4040 several months ago, and ran into two different store clerks at two different Best Buy stores who said that the Magellan interface was much more user friendly than the Garmin. But then I guess it's all in what you're used to. We decided to stick with the Magellan.
Living in our RV, the feature we really like is the ability to easily reset "home", so we can always find our way back to where we parked the house. Didn't look to be as easy to do that on a Garmin.

RE: Dish Network at Whistler BC???

This is a satellite look-angle calculator that will give you the pointing angles. Just enter the zip code or Canadian postal code for your location and choose the satellite you want to find.
